About me

Karen is a classical saxophonist, graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She enjoys a varied career performing in chamber music ensembles and orchestras, as a music educator, and a Pilates instructor. During her music studies she had the opportunity to receive Alexander Technique sessions which helped manage the demands of performing and touring. This sparked her interest in the human body and movement.

Touring involves spending a lot of time traveling in cars, trains and planes and this resulted in Karen developing sciatica. She found a local Pilates class and immediately enjoyed the relief it brought her back pain and stiffness. Over time she noticed how it strengthened her core whilst giving her a sense of calm in her busy life, through focusing on the breath, mind and body.

In 2022 she decided to take her interest further and train as a Pilates instructor with the acclaimed Pilates Foundation under Vanessa Smith. In all her work Karen loves nothing more than working with people to help them achieve their goals, be that more strength, feeling relaxed or moving with more ease. Karen now combines her Pilates practice and teaching with her professional music career.
